Near: Linville, NC
Route: Wilson Creek Spur to Wilson Creek Trail
Type: Out and Back
Distance: 8 miles
Conditions: Sunny and warm
Impression: This is the perfect summer trail...the map labels Wilson Creek as a "wild and scenic river" and the trail follows the creek very closely, making it easy to walk the creek instead of the trail...never getting over knee high, it's an easy hike, great for people of all ages and dogs of all sizes...my girlfriend, dog and i spent the entire day hanging out on this trail, admiring the creek and rock formations along the way...highly recommended during the summer months, i can't wait for next year's return visit...the Grandfather Mountain area is so beautiful and so easily accessible off the Blue Ridge Parkway, it's one of those things that shouldn't be taken for granted if you live in the area...
Directions to Trailhead:
Getting to the Spur trailhead is a little difficult, even with a map...GPS would probably help out...From Linville, NC go north on 221 for about 3.5 miles until you come to Edgemont Road on the right hand side...Follow Edgemont Rd. for 4 miles and make a right onto FSR 192, taking that 2.5 miles and the trailhead will be on the left...it's kinda hard to see, there's no real parking area, but there is a post there...
