Overmountain Victory Trail
November 29, 2009
Route: Overmountain Victory Trail
Type: Out and Back
Distance: 6 miles
Conditions: Partly sunny, cool and crisp
Impression: From the parking lot, this is pretty much an uphill climb until you reach the Appalachian Trail...it weaves through old pasture land that lends itself to nice pictures and would make a great picnic area...at the junction with the AT, Overmountain Shelter sits, a nice rest stop or camping area for overnight hikes...the shelter does have a spring close by...overall, this was a nice, easy day hike that provided a great opportunity to get out into the wilderness and be amongst some of the most beautiful mountains along the AT, Grassy Ridge and Hump Mountain...not overly difficult, i would recommend this hike for anybody who wants a moderate uphill challenge, cross a couple of small streams and find yourself in awesome settings...
Directions to Trailhead:
From Roan Mountain, TN take 143 and make a left onto Hampton Creek Road...tkae that road almost 4 miles to the trailhead parking lot on the left...
