Carver's Gap to Hump Mountain
August 25-26, 2009
Near: Roan Mountain, TN
Route: Appalachian Trail and the Grassy Ridge Trail
Type: Out and Back
Difficulty: Advanced, lots of elevation gain
Condition: Partly sunny day...
Impression: This is a great hike, one of my favorites along the Appalachian Trail...it is a strenuous 8.8 mile hike from Carver's Gap to Hump Mountain, but the scenery is like nothing else around here...bald after bald provide tremendous views of the mountains and valleys that surround...Grassy Ridge offers the highest, natural 360 off the AT...in late summer/eary fall, blueberries are all over the place and make for a fun hike...this is a great time, no matter what season and highly recommended...
Directions to Trailhead:
From Roan Mountain, TN take highway 143 for about 10 miles...the gap is clearly signed and there's a parking lot and a bathroom...
