Big Pinnacle, MRNRA, VA
December 22, 2009
Route: Big Pinnacle Trail
Type: Out and Back
Distance: 1.5 miles
Conditions: Knee-high snow and cold
Impression: This was a fun hike to do and would be any time of the year...while most people do one of the many trails surrounding Mt. Rogers, this peak provides tremendous views of Grayson Highlands, Mount Rogers and all the mountains near and far...once on top, a beautiful 360* view rewards hikers...easy to get to and would serve a picturesque sunset trip in the summer, i would recommend this hike to anyone trying to get out for a quick day hike or planning a few days trip to the Highlands...
Directions to Trailhead:
The Big Pinnacle Trail is located in the Grayson Highlands State Park and can be gotten to off of VA 58. Once inside the park, the trail begins at Massey Gap.
